European regulators have charged Elon Musk’s X with breaching its sweeping Digital Services Act, accusing the platform of misleading its users among other violations. They claim X does not comply with the DSA in key transparency areas, uses dark patterns to mislead users, fails to provide an adequate ad repository, and blocks access to data for researchers. The company’s approach to verified accounts also allegedly deceives users, as anyone can obtain the “verified” status. If the preliminary findings are confirmed, X could face a fine of up to 6% of its global annual turnover. The investigation also includes X’s content moderation practices.
